Petzl, the leader in Rope Access and Rope Descent gear, recently updated the ASAP Fall Arrester Back Up Device. It's ideal for any situation in need of a backup device for highrise window washers or where continual fall protection is needed. This Petzl Rope Grab is able to be used on 10-13mm (7/16" or ½") rope. The ASAP works great with the Oxan, an ANSI rated carabiner (sold separately). For normal use, this fall arrest system moves freely along the rope without any manual intervention and accompanies the user in all of her or his movements. This is by far the smoothest self-trailing rope grab on the market! In case of shock or sudden acceleration, the ASAP uses centrifugal force to activate internal weights to stop the rotation, even if the user grabs onto the device. The arm pivots on its axis and the device locks by pinching the rope between the locking wheel and the frame of the device.

The Petzl ASAP moves freely along the rope without any manual intervention and accompanies the user in all of her or his movements.

Lanyard and Carabiner

Petzl suggests using the Petzl ASAP'Sorber along with the Oxan carabiner to qualify as ANSI rated. If you are looking for a lanyard to use with the ASAP that is rated for two people (ideal for rescue situations) while still remaining ANSI qualified, Petzl made the ASAP'Sorber Axess. All three of these accessories are sold separately.

Excellent hands free fall arrest.

When doing high rise rope work, i.e.. rappelling off of roofs etc to clean windows the Petzl ASAP is great. I use my working rope for me and a back up line with the ASAP and Absorb lanyard for fall arrest. once its on the rope it follows you down the line without manualy working it. It will go up or down depending on your needs, all hands free. Keeps those OSHA guys off my back.
