INTRODUCTION

This guide will cover troubleshooting the most common issues with the pump and motor that come with your SG2, NXT 5, or other powered pure water system. If you are getting lower than expected flow, your pump is shutting down or overheating, or if you have other concerns, follow the steps below!

IMPORTANT: Water should always be flowing through the system while testing.

Pump Troubleshooting

Check Pump Function

REMOVE PUMP

Locate the stainless steel collar clamp connecting your brass pump to the motor. Holding the pump, remove the stainless steel machine screw to loosen the collar and remove the pump. With the pump in hand, turn the vain adapter (the male tab centered in the bearing where the pump meets the motor).

If it turns easily,  the pump is okay. If it’s hard to turn or won’t turn at all, the pump may be worn out or locked up.

SIGNS THE PUMP IS LOCKED

  • Motor overheating
  • GFCI or outlet constantly tripping
  • Erratic pressure

Extension Cords

In some cases, if an extension cord is used, it's possible your pump is not getting adequate power. A sign that your system isn’t getting enough power is whether your GFCI or outlet is tripping or your pump is overheating. Connect your system directly to an outlet without an extension cord to test this. If this solves the tripping problem, an upgrade to the extension cord is required. Try upgrading to a thicker gauge extension, a lesser length extension, or a combination of these.

If you are still having an issue, check your GFCI. To determine if your GFCI is bad, unplug the motor from your switch plate. These are the male and female plugs behind your RO. Remove the electrical tape and use a small extension cord to plug your motor directly into an outlet. This bypasses your switch assembly. This is a quick check; you should only plug it in for a few seconds. If the motor is functioning properly, a new GFCI will likely solve the problem (if purchasing locally, look for a “3-wire grounded GFCI”). With the GFCI replaced, your system should function properly.

Trouble Shooting Your Pump 2

If you've already replaced your GFCI, and your motor only operates when bypassing the switch, your next step is to replace the switch. This is an extremely rare instance in which the switch is bad. (Please call ABC and request - part # TA-DC-8000205 bracket & WF7000-ESW switch).

If the motor is not functioning while bypassing the switch, check for a bad connection. Look inside the male plus and behind the motor plate. If the connections are good, purchase a new motor.
